Race Details

The 2022 Trail Mix Race presented by TC Running Company has four distances available, from the first-time trail racer, to the most experienced of ultra-trail runners. Register early, all distances are capped:

  • 50K – capped at 200 runners
  • 25K – capped at 250 runners
  • 12.5K – capped at 250 runners
  • 6K – capped at 150 runners

Swag & Awards

All registrants will receive a short-sleeve, performance CRAFT Trail Mix T-shirt, with men’s and women’s sizing available. Youth sizes will be non-CRAFT performance t-shirts.

All registrants will receive a 7 oz., collapsible, re-usable, kind-to-the-earth Trail Mix Race cup to be used on race day.  

Register by March 13 to personalize your race number!  Up to 14 letters, digits or dashes only.  Personalization cannot be all digits and must be family friendly. We reserve the right to remove inappropriate entries.

All finishers receive the Three Rivers Park District traditional hand-crafted, branded wooden finisher medal.

Awards

The top three finishers in each distance and the top finisher in each age group* will receive a hand-crafted award made from cedar. Age group awards will be shipped to the winner post-race.

The 12.5K loop course is primarily an equestrian trail consisting of mowed grass and dirt. Depending on conditions, it is very suitable for a first-time ultra-trail run. Spring in Minnesota can bring just about anything: sun, rain, mud, snow, ice — we’ve seen it all! Please prepare accordingly. For runner safety, the course may be altered due to trail conditions.   

The 50K race is four laps, the 25K is two laps, the 12.5K is one lap.  The 6K course will be two laps and is partially run on its own course. Lap split times will be available. All 50K runners must begin their final lap by 2:00 PM.  Runners behind this schedule will be pulled from the course and not allowed to continue.  Timing and post-race food will be available for all runners who start their final lap by 2:00 PM regardless of finishing time.

Course Basics

  • Follow the course as marked in the direction of the race. Cutting or deviating from the course results in disqualification.
  • Please observe trail etiquette during the race.  This course may see public use on race weekend.  Please be respectful of other trail users and please alert others to your intent to pass.
  • While we love our furry friends, pets are not considered pacers and are not be allowed on course.
  • Littering is not allowed (this includes organic/compostable waste, e.g., Banana peels, orange peels, toilet paper).  Littering may be grounds for disqualification.
  • Trekking poles are allowed.
  • Headphones are discouraged, but their use is not prohibited. Please be aware of your surroundings at all times and maintain the ability to communicate with other runners, volunteers and trail users. 
  • Be respectful of volunteers, public trail users, Park and other Race Staff and each other. 
  • Cutoff time for the 50K will be enforced.  All 50K runners must begin their final lap by 2:00 PM.
  • Official finish time and awards will be based on net (chip) time.  

Trail Running and Trash 

Please respect the trails and the beauty of Lake Rebecca Park Reserve by disposing of any trash in the appropriate receptacle at the aid stations and finish area.

(Mostly) Cupless Race 

Trail Mix Race is going cupless!  Each registrant will receive a collapsible, re-useable cup that fits in your pocket for use on the course. Runners are also encouraged to make use of hydration vests, packs and handheld bottles. Water and Gatorade will be available for refill at each Aid Station. Compostable cups for water and Gatorade will be available in the finish chute.

Trail Mix Aid Stations are managed by volunteers, many of them spending most of their day out there to help you, so please be sure to thank them. All four aid stations will have water and lemon-line Gatorade.  For the 50K runners, Aid Station #2 will have additional food/nutrition items available. Check back in March for an updated list of food items available this year. The 6K course will pass through Aid Station #4 on their second lap.

Drop Bags

50K runners ONLY are allowed a drop bag at AS#4 (Beachside Shelter near the start line). You can deliver your own drop bag to the shelter prior to the start of the race and picnic tables will be marked by bib number so bags can be easily found.  For 25K, 12.5K and 6K runners, drop bags are not allowed and if you have specific dietary requirements, please be prepared to carry what you need. 

Post-Race Food 

Water and Gatorade will be available in the finish chute. Broth, rolls, Trail Mix and other goodies will be available in the food tent and will be “grab & go” style.

Parking is free at Lake Rebecca. Depending on where you park, it may be a 5-to-10-minute walk to the start area. Get directions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the course like?

The course follows the equestrian trails of Lake Rebecca Park Reserve and offers a variety of scenery. The trail surface is packed dirt and grass. There are several moderately difficult hills within the route, with limited roots and rocks. Lower areas and those in dense woods may have mud or standing water of a few inches. Like any trail, runners should take extra care with their foot placement during the race. See the course map link for route details and an elevation chart. You can also view last year’s results to get an idea of how long it took most people to complete the race.

What is the refund policy?

The race will take place rain, shine or snow, and entry fees are non-refundable. Exceptions will be made for any participants experiencing COVID-related symptoms prior to race day. Race start times may be delayed if severe weather is imminent.

If I register for the 50K, am I allowed to drop down to the 25K race? 

Yes, 50K runners are allowed to drop down to the 25K race (or 25K to 12.5K or 6K); however, you will not be refunded the difference in registration fees and must do so by April 13.

What if there is bad weather? 

The race will go on! Spring weather in Minnesota is highly variable and past Trail Mix participants have run in the sunshine, in the cold, through rain, in a few inches of snow and through plenty of mud. Lightening may delay the start of the race. If the weather is deemed too dangerous the race will be cancelled. Refunds will not be issued for event cancellation.

Can I pick up someone else's race packet or can someone else pick up my race packet?

Yes, packets may be picked up by someone other than yourself. The person picking up your packet assumes all responsibility for lost race bibs and/or t-shirts. 

Are there restrooms on the race course?

Yes, there is one at each of the aid stations and near the start/finish area.

Can I wear my iPod or other music playing device?

Yes, although we ask that you keep the volume at a level that will allow you to hear other runners, race officials, etc. Please be aware of your surroundings.
