Three Rivers Board Will Hold Public Hearing About 2024 Budget

October 31, 2023

The public is invited to share comments about Three Rivers Park District’s proposed 2024 budget and property tax levy at a public hearing at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, November 9, at the Three Rivers Park District Administrative Center, 3000 Xenium Lane N., Plymouth. Beginning Monday, November 6, written comments also may be shared via LetsTalkThreeRivers.org; comments received by 5 p.m. Wednesday, November 8, will be shared with the Board at the meeting.

The general fund budget funds the day-to-day operations of Three Rivers Park District. For 2024, the proposed budget is $50,841,662, an increase of $2,115,865 over 2023. Three Rivers funds the budget primarily through a property tax levy in suburban Hennepin County. For 2024, the proposed tax levy is $49.33 million, a 3.5 percent increase over 2023. A home valued at $417,350 (the median residential value in suburban Hennepin County) will pay a $1.68 annual increase in property taxes to Three Rivers.

The 2024 budget focuses on continuing these goals and priorities:

•    Provide high quality facilities, programs and recreational opportunities.
•    Lead in natural resources management and educate the public about natural resources management issues.
•    Offer a wide range of services to the public in existing park locations and in communities of suburban Hennepin County.
•    As much as possible, fund needed budget increases with non-property tax revenue.

Following the hearing, the Three Rivers Board will consider adopting the 2024 general fund budget at the Board meeting on November 9. Upon approval by the Three Rivers Board, the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners will review the budget at a meeting in November. The Three Rivers Park District Board will then consider approval of the final 2024 property tax levy and reaffirmation of the 2024 general fund budget on December 21.
