Youth Lessons

Young golfers can discover the excitement of golf through Golf Academy lessons! Our youth lessons are designed to teach essential skills in a fun and supportive environment.

Little Whippers: Learn to Golf – Ages 5 to 6

These mini-lessons are designed as an introduction for very young golfers. 

Points of emphasis: Fun and games that introduce putting, chipping and the full swing.

Player Level – Ages 6 to 8

Lessons designed specifically for kids to encourage and create an interest in golf. 
 
Points of emphasis: Short game, putting, chipping and the full swing. Young golfers learn about equipment, golf terms, rules and etiquette. Participants are introduced to the Nine Core Values of First Tee.

Par Level – Ages 8 to 12

Par Level junior golf lessons are for those new to the game or for those who have completed the Player Level. 

Points of emphasis: Basic fundamentals of the long and short game, USGA golf rules and golf etiquette. Putting, chipping, irons and woods are taught.

Par Level: Hooked on Golf 1 – Ages 8 to 12

Join us for Hooked on Golf 1 – Par Level, a comprehensive four-lesson program from First Tee Minnesota designed to make golf fun and engaging for kids. This program offers an exciting opportunity for young golfers to learn and grow.

Participants need to provide their own equipment or there is the option to purchase a new starter set of golf clubs.

Points of emphasis: Golf fundamentals focused on essential golf skills, including putting, chipping and full swing techniques. 

Participants will receive an introduction to First Tee life skills, helping kids develop positive values such as respect, responsibility and perseverance. Each session features a 30-minute segment on golf etiquette, golf course maintenance and environmental awareness, teaching young golfers about the broader aspects of the sport and how to appreciate the game’s setting. 

This program is perfect for kids ready to build their golf skills and learn valuable life lessons in a supportive and fun environment.

Par Level: Hooked on Golf 2 – Ages 8 to 12

The second part of the Hooked on Golf series, the goal is to encourage kids to have fun playing golf. 

In addition to golf fundamentals, the program consists of games to reinforce golf skills learned. Participants play a few holes on the course one day.  

Participants need to provide their own equipment.

Points of emphasis: Basic fundamentals of golf and an introduction to Par Level life skills and certification. 

Each day also includes a special presentation covering golf etiquette, golf course maintenance and the environment.

Birdie Level – Ages 9 to 15

Birdie Level lessons are for the junior golfer who regularly plays 9 holes, has completed a Par Level lesson or the equivalent and is truly interested in skill development. 

Points of emphasis: Putting, chipping, pitching, sand, irons, woods and course management.

Get Golf Ready Teen – Ages 13 to 17

Combine fun, friends and fitness while learning everything needed to play golf. Test your new skills on the course in a casual, friendly setting. Designed for teenagers entering the game of golf with little or no experience.  
 
What to bring: Yourself and a desire to have fun. Bring clubs if you have them, otherwise golf clubs, balls and other equipment are provided for use during class.

First Tee Golf Camp – Ages 12 to 17

Improve your golf skills. Receive instruction on various aspects of the game and play the Evergreen Course each day. Campers must bring their own golf clubs and have experience playing nine holes in a safe and responsible manner.

Youth Lesson Leagues

Join our lesson leagues for a fun way to learn and play golf regularly! These leagues are perfect for young golfers who can confidently play 9 holes of golf and want to sharpen their skills.

Par Level 1 – Ages 9 to 15

For all abilities that can responsibly play 9 holes of golf and are committed to improving their game. Instruction focuses on etiquette, putting, chipping, pitching, full swing, USGA rules, course management and sportsmanship within the context of First Tee guidelines. 

First Tee life skills for Par Level are covered and kids have the chance to become certified in First Tee program. Play dates have a shotgun start with all participants starting at the same time on different holes. Kids can play with friends or get paired with others in the league.

Par Level 2 – Ages 9 to 11

This league builds upon the fundamentals learned in Hooked on Golf I. Juniors will continue developing basic golf skills, along with Par Level life skills.

Play dates are Mondays from June 15–August 10.

Participants may play with friends or get paired with others in the league. Tee times are available from 11 AM–1:20 PM in 10-minute increments.

Register:

Birdie Level 1 – Ages 11 to 13

Juniors are expected to be able to play 9 holes of golf before joining this league. This league teaches basic golf skills and USGA rules and etiquette within First Tee context. Lessons consist of games and instruction in a group setting.

Play dates are Mondays from June 15–August 10.

Participants may play with friends or get paired with others in the league. Tee times are available from 7:30–10:50 AM in 10-minute increments.

Birdie Level 2 – Ages 12 to 13

This league builds on the basic skills learned in Birdie 1 Lesson League. Goal setting and course management are also introduced at this level, but the focus continues to be on having fun and learning skills.

Play dates are Mondays from June 15–August 10.

Participants may play with friends or get paired with others in the league. Tee times are available from 7:30–10:50 AM in 10-minute increments.

Birdie Elite Level – Ages 12 to 15

This league builds on skills learned in Birdie 1 & 2 lesson leagues. More advanced golf skills are introduced with friendly competition and tournament play.

Play dates are Mondays from June 15–August 10.

Participants may play with friends or get paired with others in the league. Tee times are available from 7:30–10:50 AM in 10-minute increments.

Eagle Level – Ages 13 to 17

This league is for the serious junior golfer who regularly plays 9 to 18 holes of golf. This travel league gives older and more competitive junior golfers an opportunity to play both 9 and 18 holes of golf at local golf courses each week.

Play dates are Tuesdays from June 16–August 11.

Middle School Program – Ages 11 to 14

This advanced lesson league is for middle school-aged golfers who have previously played regular lesson leagues and can shoot 50 or lower on a 9-hole course. Lessons cover swing fundamentals, course management and the rules of golf.

League format changes each week and includes team and individual play, 2-person best ball, scramble, gross and net scores. This is a fun program designed for the junior golfer that would like to play competitively in high school or summer junior tournaments.

Eagle Lake play dates are Thursdays from June 11–August 13. Glen Lake play dates are Tuesdays from June 16–August 11.

Advanced – Ages 12 to 17

These lessons are for participants in the Championship Course Leagues. They are designed help competitive golfers increase their skills in all aspects of the game including golf skills, on-course strategy, practice techniques, rules, etiquette and mental approach.
