North Mississippi Regional Park Trail Reconstruction
Trail reconstruction is taking place this summer on the West Mississippi River Regional Trail where it travels through North Mississippi Regional Park in Brooklyn Center. The project is taking place on the segment of the trail between 53rd Avenue N. and the Interstate Hwy. 694 underpass. The work involves reconstruction of approximately 1.3 miles of trail as well as accessibility improvements to rest areas along the trail and near the fishing pier. View a map of the project area and trail detours.
The project has begun; see the list below for what's open and closed at the park. Crews will be removing trees and vegetation along the trail during the week of June 20. Three Rivers Park District’s Senior Manager of Forestry has approved the tree and plant removals that will occur as part of the project. Three Rivers works to minimize the number of trees that need to be removed whenever a project of this type takes place.
What will be open and closed?
- The existing paved trail will be under construction for approximately three months. Use provided detour routes. Northbound trail users will be routed onto Lyndale Avenue N. and southbound trail users will be routed to Camden Avenue N. between 53rd Avenue N. and 57th Avenue N. Trail users north of 57th Avenue N. will be routed to the park entrance road.
- The park entrance at 57th Avenue N. will be closed to vehicle traffic during the project.
- The Interstate Hwy. 694 underpass will be closed for up to three weeks, but access to the trail underpass will be open on weekends.
- Areas of North Mississippi Regional Park owned and operated by the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (areas south of 53rd Avenue N.) will remain open regular hours and are unaffected by this project.
