Mississippi Gateway Shoreline Restoration

A project to restore areas of the Mississippi River shoreline and increase accessibility for shoreline fishing is taking place at Mississippi Gateway Regional Park. Work is complete on areas near Coon Rapids Dam, including the addition of an accessible fishing platform.

Further south in the park, unusually deep frost in the winter of 2025-2026 prevented the contractor from completing the remaining shoreline restoration work prior to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources' deadline for work to pause due to fish spawning regulations. The remaining work is expected to resume later this summer. A segment of trail along the river is expected to be closed in late summer and fall while the project is completed.
