Creating Community on the Trail: The Story of the Hyland Sole Mates

The idea of the Hyland Sole Mates began almost a year before we actually called ourselves that.

Bev has been an avid hiker for over 30 years. She, and many of the members of the Hyland Sole Mates hiking group, have hiked in many parks around the Twin Cities area, Minnesota and Wisconsin state parks, and segments of Superior Hiking Trail. Bev’s European hiking adventures include hiking the Cleveland Way in Yorkshire England, the Dolomites in northern Italy and the Camino de Santiago in Spain. Bev has lived in Bloomington, Minn., for almost 25 years and her favorite park in the whole world is Hyland Lake Park Reserve.

Aerators Installed on Area Lakes

Three Rivers Park District is operating aeration systems this winter in Lake Rebecca, Cleary Lake, Murphy Lake and Hyland Lake. The Minnehaha Creek Watershed District is operating an aeration system in South Lundsten Lake. Aeration will continue until ice off conditions in 2023. Operation of the aeration systems may result in unsafe ice conditions on portions of the lakes for the duration of the winter. Anyone using the lakes should be aware of the danger of open water or thin ice. The aeration systems are used to keep fish alive by assuring they receive sufficient oxygen.

Two Parks Will Close for Scheduled Deer Hunts

Three Rivers Park District will conduct scheduled deer hunts intended to keep deer herds in balance with available habitat. This will necessitate the closing, or partial closing, of parks where the hunts are taking place.
