Construction underway at Hyland Lake Park Reserve
May 08, 2019
Construction has started on Phase 1 of the road and parking lot improvement project at Hyland Lake Park Reserve. This phase includes repaving of the Woodcrest and Edgewood picnic area parking lots and the park road leading to those areas. View a map of the affected areas including road and parking lot closures. The reservation picnic areas are closed for the 2019 season. The play area, Visitor Center and adjacent parking lot are open through July 15, then will close for the remainder of the 2019 season so work can take place on the park entrance road and parking lot.
The design for parking lot improvements near the Visitor Center will concentrate all of the parking spots into one lot near the Visitor Center and play area. When completed, visitors will no longer need to cross the park road to get from their cars to the play area and Visitor Center. This will improve safety for park guests and the overall flow of the parking area.
The best solution for creating space for the parking lot requires moving the park road to the west. In order to do this, we need to remove some trees and vegetation from the area west of the current park road. Park District Forestry staff have been involved in the project throughout the design process and approved the vegetation removal plan. Plans were developed to remove the fewest number of trees possible from the area. Although construction on the pavement near the Visitor Center won’t take place until later this summer, park guests will notice tree removal taking place this spring.
