Normandale Lake

Nestled in the heart of Bloomington, Normandale Lake offers a vibrant recreational destination for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers. This picturesque urban lake provides a diverse array of outdoor activities close to home.

With a scenic bandshell, boating opportunities, fishing access, picnic areas and paved trails, Normandale Lake has something for everyone. Cyclists and paddling enthusiasts will also find the lake an ideal spot for outdoor enjoyment close to home, especially while being close to other amenities throughout the Hyland-Bush-Anderson Lakes Park Reserve.

Cooperative Agreement with the City of Bloomington

As of January 1, 2025, Normandale Lake is under the management of Three Rivers Park District as part of a cooperative agreement with the City of Bloomington.

All facilities and amenities included in the cooperative agreement are part of the Hyland-Bush-Anderson Lakes Park Reserve, where both Three Rivers and the City have historically managed parkland and facilities. This partnership agreement will increase operational efficiency and reduce costs to the public by having one agency oversee all operations and maintenance within the park reserve.

Staff from Three Rivers and the City of Bloomington have been meeting regularly to ensure a smooth transition. There are no anticipated interruptions to amenities or services.

Park visitors can bike the entire 1.9 miles of paved trail around Normandale Lake.

Picnic areas are first-come, first-served and do not require a prior reservation.

Any reservations for Normandale Lake facilities that were made through the City of Bloomington for a date in 2025 are confirmed and will be honored.

FAQs

Will Arts in the Parks events still happen at the Normandale Lake bandshell?

Yes. The City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation staff will continue to host concerts and events at the Normandale Lake bandshell. 

More details about the 2025 line up will be available on the City’s website.

Will there be significant changes to the offerings or operations at Normandale Lake?

No. The goal is to keep operations as consistent as possible, making for a seamless transition.

Does Three Rivers now own the Normandale Lake park location?

No. This location is still owned by the City of Bloomington.

Under the cooperative agreement, Three Rivers will manage the operations and maintenance of this regional park location.

Is this a permanent operational change?

The current cooperative agreement is for five years with opportunity for renewal.
