Wonder Fund Scholarships
Nature education is a wonderful way to explore, connect and play in the great outdoors. Last year, more than 100,000 students engaged with nature centers and other park facilities in Three Rivers as part of their curriculum, and many of them received support from the Wonder Fund program.
What is Wonder Fund?
Wonder Fund is a scholarship program that awards mini-grants to help groups and individuals with financial need so they can experience fee-based programs and summer camps in the parks.
Upon approval, programs or lessons will be discounted at 60%.
Who can apply for Wonder Fund?
Groups as well as individuals with financial needs can apply. See qualifications below.
Groups serving individuals with financial need can apply for financial assistance for weekday field trips to the parks. Schools receiving financial assistance are eligible for up to eight scholarships per year.
If you live outside of Hennepin or Scott counties and are enrolled in one of the following services, you can apply:
- Free and Reduced Lunch Program
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
- Emergency Medical Assistance (EMA)
- Minnesota Care
- General Assistance (GA)
- Minnesota Family Investment Act (MFIP)
- Medical Assistance (MA)
- Minnesota Supplemental Aid (MSA)
- Refugee Cash Assistance (RCA)
- Work Benefit (WB)
- Diversionary Work Program (DWP)
- Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC)
- Supplemental Nutrition Program Employment and Training Program (SNAP E&T)
Individuals who qualify can receive one scholarship per year.
If you live in Hennepin County or Scott County, apply for the Recreation Pass Plus to receive discounts on programs.
How do I apply for a Wonder Fund scholarship?
Apply for a Wonder Fund scholarship by completing an application. Applications must be received prior to the program registration deadline.
Submit form to the supervisor at the nature center or program location you plan to visit.

When will I know if my application is approved?
If your application is approved, you will be notified by email within two weeks of when the application is received.
Once notified of approval, please call the Reservations Office at 763.559.6700 to confirm enrollment and make payment. You can also mail a check for the remaining balance to the above address.
Enrollment is not guaranteed and is subject to availability until remaining balance has been paid in full.
Will my information be kept confidential?
All information is confidential and will not be used for any purpose other than communication about this and other relevant Three Rivers programs.
