Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities

  • Program Assistants & Interpreters help with nature, history, recreation, arts or farming programs and events for children, families and adults.
  • Natural Resources Monitors & Surveyors help collect data on wildlife and plant populations such as Blanding’s turtles, songbirds, amphibians, Monarch Larvae and invasive plants.
  • Project Assistants help with gardening, farm tasks, sewing, prairie seed collection and a host of odd jobs.
  • Park Patrollers are basic first aid volunteers who help guests on bike, cross-country ski, horse and hiking trails, as well as events and races.

  • Ski Patrollers are advanced level first aid volunteers who help injured guests at alpine ski areas. 

Requirements: Volunteers must be 16 years or older, or be accompanied by a responsible adult unless stated otherwise. Family volunteering is encouraged. Volunteers are selected based on available positions, requirements of each position, and successful completion of any required training. A background check is required for some positions.

Short-term Volunteer Opportunities

  • Global Youth Service Day: An international effort to engage today's youth in service. Projects will be held on April 20 and 21. Check back on March 1 for more information and registration.
  • Events: Lots of events occur year-round throughout the Park District and many volunteers are needed.  One-time volunteers welcome.

  • Service Projects: Individuals 16 and older, seeking a service project for school or other service organization, may participate in prairie seed collection, buckthorn removal, garlic mustard pulls or a limited number of other service projects in spring and fall.

  • Scouting Award Projects: A limited number of projects are available in spring or fall for Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts or other youth working on their Eagle Scout Award, Gold Award or similar project.

  • Service Learning and Experiential Education: A wide variety of opportunities are available for colleges and universities interested in research projects, program delivery, providing outreach and public education campaigns; or working with Three Rivers leadership on development initiatives.
