Service Project Opportunities
May 3, 2013

Groups or individuals seeking service projects to benefit the environment should consider the following possibilities:

  • Adopt-a-Garden: ongoing, growing season
  • Garlic Mustard Pull and Harvest: Sat. May 4 (cancelled), 11, 18 & 25, 9AM-1PM, Silverwood. Help preserve the native forests and woodlands of our parks by harvesting garlic mustard, an invasive non-native plant. Once established, it prevents the regeneration of native plant species. Although invasive here, it is considered a delicacy in some cultures. Participants may take some home for cooking. This event is perfect for anyone ages 8 and older.
  • Planting Event: For more information or to register, visit greatrivergreening.org or call 651.665.9500 #11. Scott County in partnership with Three Rivers Park District.
-Sat. Jun. 1, 8:30AM-12:30PM, Spring Lake Regional Park, Prior Lake
  • Gardening, Gale Woods Farm: Groups of 4-30 may arrange to work at the farm (weekdays) to help with the needs of the day such as gardening (planting, watering, pulling weeds, etc.), barn clean-up and wool skirting. All ages possible, middle school and older ideal. Email us for more information.
  • Park Clean-Up: Independent park clean-up is a great way to promote environmental stewardship. One-time or ongoing; spring and fall have the greatest need. Groups should contact the park in advance. Best for small groups. Information and Instructions l Registration and Reporting Form
  • Prairie Seed Collection: Tuesdays and Saturdays, late August-mid October. Various park locations.
  • Buckthorn Removal: October/November. Help fight this invasive plant!
  • Global Youth Service Day(s): 2014 dates Fri. Apr. 11 & Sat. Apr. 12.  Various park locations.
