Planning for Nine Mile Creek Regional Trail
July 21, 2010
The route for Nine Mile Creek Regional Trail through Edina is not yet determined. Several alternative trail routes are under consideration and include routes adjacent to roads and along the Nine Mile Creek corridor. As part of the evaluation process for the alternative trail routes, the Park District and City worked together to conduct an Environmental Assessment and Community Assessment Team.
The Environmental Assessment was completed by an independent consulting and utilized a common environmental review practice called an Environmental Review Worksheet. The Community Assessment Team was comprised of neighborhood representatives which provided guidance in the completion of Social, Technical, and Economic Assessments. The completed Environmental, Social, Technical, and Economic Assessments are available for review.
The Park District conducted a 30-day public comment period between June 14 and July 14, 2010 and two identical open houses for community meember to learn more about assessment findings and provide written feedback. The public comment period is now closed.
Environmental Assessment
As part of the assessment process, Three Rivers Park District completed a volunteer environmental assessment worksheet (EAW). On July 7, 2009, the City of Edina passed a Resolution of Support for the completion of the EAW.
The EAW findings will help determine if any alternative trail routes should be removed from further consideration and will help determine the preferred Nine Mile Creek Regional Trail route through Edina. The EAW is complete and available for review.

Community Assessment Team
The Park District coordinated a Community Assessment Team comprised of representatives from each of the 14 alternative trail routes under consideration. The Community Assessment Team representatives were nominated by property owners living adjacent the alternative trail routes in early Fall 2009.

The Community Assessment Team role was to identify the constraints and opportunities associated with each route, provide design suggestions/considerations for each route, and convey information back to their respective route neighbors. The resulting Social, Technical, and Economic Assessment findings are complete and available for public review. These findings will help determine if any alternative trail routes should be removed from further consideration and will help determine the preferred Nine Mile Creek Regional Trail route through Edina. The 30-day public period for the social, technical and economic findings closed on July 14, 2010.
