Goose Hunt

As part of our Canada goose control program, Three Rivers Park District allows limited goose hunting in the fall at selected areas of Baker Park Reserve and Cleary Lake Regional Park. Park District employees will supervise each hunt.

Hunting is allowed for a minimum of five days during the early goose season and the regular waterfowl season. Exact dates are determined before the season begins. Hunting is confined to weekday mornings starting 30 minutes before sunrise. Quitting times vary based on anticipated park use, generally around 10:00 AM. Locations and techniques may vary from day to day to reflect changes in the behavior and location of the birds. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has waived the restriction of hunting within 100 yards of water for park hunts. We impose localized closures around hunting areas; however, most portions of the parks remain open to the general public during hunting times.

Hunters must possess all necessary state and federal licenses and permits and must help build blinds and provide their own decoys. Hunters are expected to honor their commitment regardless of conditions. We do not guarantee the presence of geese during your hunt.

Goose Hunt Application

There will be no goose hunt scheduled in 2011. The goose population has declined in the areas where the hunts were held at Baker Park Reserve and Cleary Lake Regional Park. The goose hunt information will remain posted and the Park District will re-assess the need for a hunt in 2012. Please direct questions to 763.694.7840.

When hunts are scheduled, hunters are selected using a preference lottery system. Applicants who are not selected gain preference each year. Successful applicants will be notified by mail. All other applicants will be notified by email or post.
