Sara Wyatt was first elected to represent District 1 on the Three Rivers Park District Board of Commissioners in 2006 and is Chair of the Parks and Natural Resources Committee. This committee leads the Board’s involvement in protection of natural resources in Three Rivers Parks. These efforts include restoration and preservation of wildlife habitat and working with other agencies to protect and improve water quality of the region’s lakes, rivers and streams.
Living in the Long Lake area for close to 40 years, Sara has a background in teaching and has worked in middle management for the Bell System. She spent summers during her youth in the Detroit Lakes area, where she developed her love of the outdoors and outdoor activities. She feels that a strong connection to nature is essential for her to leading a healthy and balanced life.
Noting that nearly 4 million visits were made to Three Rivers trails during 2009 alone, she is pleased to see people of all ages enjoying Three Rivers trails and even using them to commute to school or work. The completion of the Dakota Rail, Lake Independence, and Luce Line regional trails during her term is a great source of pride. The Park District’s policy of free access for all to its parks and its leadership role in improving water quality and habitat protection are also important to her. Sara believes in good communications with the communities she represents and during her term has initiated visits with each city council or park commission in District 1
My favorite places at Three Rivers
"The new Dakota Rail Regional Trail is my favorite trail. It wanders through the Lake Minnetonka area and beyond, offering priceless views of lakes, marshes and woods.
My favorite park is Baker Park Reserve, since it offers so much to so many. Whether you visit the beach and playground; boat and fish on Lake Independence; hike or bike on the park trails, camp at the campgrounds or the Near-Wilderness Settlement; golf or cross-country ski; Baker Park has activities that you are bound to enjoy. I remember my children biking on the trails and spending hot summer days at the beach. Now we have memories of our grandson’s birthday and swimming parties at the beach and his learning to golf at the schools offered at Baker. We hope to continue enjoying Baker Park by renting one of the new camper cabins soon to make new memories for our family.”
Sara's term expires December 31, 2012.
