Dale began his tenure on the Three Rivers Park District Board of Commissioners in February of 2006, when he was appointed by the Board to be the District 4 Commissioner. In November of 2008, Dale was elected by voters of the 4th Commissioner District to a four-year term (2009-2012).

In addition to his work with Three Rivers, Dale is also General Manager of Lakewinds Natural Foods and is on the Twin Cities Community Voice Mail Board of Directors. Prior to his service on the Park District Board, he served on the West Hennepin Human Services Planning Board.

Currently a resident of Shorewood, Dale has lived in western Hennepin County for 25 years. He is an active member at The Marsh—A Center for Fitness and Balance in Minnetonka and enjoys biking, running, walking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, nature trail hiking, and using the dog off-leash areas in the parks. He is also an active amateur triathlete.

Dale is proud that the Park District has preserved and protected tens of thousands of acres of lakes, habitat and forests in the metro area. He believes that the elimination of parking fees was an important decision that makes the trails and basic park amenities more accessible to all users.

My favorite place at Three Rivers

“I have a great affinity for Carver Park Reserve. I have been visiting that park very regularly for about 25 years. I ski in the winter, and I bike, walk, hike, and visit Lowry Nature Center during the other seasons. I really like the King Blind, as it overlooks a lake that is very busy with birds during times of migration. Being in the park and feeling like I’m out in nature is a big deal for me. I really like the peacefulness that settles in when none of the stimuli of everyday life are present.

I also use Baker Park Reserve and Hyland Lake Park Reserve, and I get the same sense of the outdoors at those places, too. It’s so important that we preserve these places of natural habitat, even as we balance the areas of preservation with areas of active recreation. That’s the yin and yang of the Park District in a nutshell; use some of it, preserve a bunch of it, and give people a place to leave the work-a-day world for a while.”

Dale's term expires December 31, 2012.
